Happy Easter!

My favorite Dürer:Melancholia.

Durer was the OG Renaissance artist, imo. Your new tats will be lit.

I love the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. I lived in Jerusalem for a few years and loved it. Even being there for that long, I still didn’t see all the historical things I wanted to see. There is so much there!

I'm in a tiny minority who doesn't like Jerusalem. I visited at least 35 years ago, so perhaps it's different now, but the contempt and outright misogyny I witnessed and experienced on several religious sites made for an unpleasant trip. I've been brought up to behave respectfully towards religion and its customs, but the respect wasn't mutual. Clearly in the mid-1980s no great strides were made by the various male-ruled organised religions in the acceptance of women as equals. Or perhaps the most conservative representatives of religion are to be found in Jerusalem, and the jealously guarding their patch against the other religions encourages entrenchment and resistance against change? I don't know, all I know is I never want to go back there. Perhaps I shouldn't have let it influence me that much and just have enjoyed the historical surroundings...

I don't know much about Dürer, so thanks for putting me on his track!

I was looking at tapesteries for some tat inspiration myself. Plants and such. Something inspired by one of the woodcuts would be pretty cool to see

I love Jerusalem! It is one of my all time favourite places in the world.. I'm not religious in anyway what so ever but there is just something about that place that makes you stop and absorb it all in. So special.. Violence and religion hand in hand for millenia too. I have a great photo of myself and now hubby laughing whilst stood on The Temple Mount overlooking the Gardens of Gethsemane/Mount of Olives between some Roman columns as millions others have. We were laughing as our Jewish guide told us no touching as that is against Islamic conservatism by the Al-Aqsa and he didn't want trouble. Hubby then immediately put his arm around my shoulder. The guide was then nooooooo! Someone snapped us at that second..

My engagement ring also came from there too, without my knowledge, so doubley special. One day soon we will return when we can with our son.

Happy Easter! Hey have you been to the Garden tomb ? It seems a more likely place for Christ’s burial than the church of the holy sepulcher, since it’s only a 2-3 min walk from Golgotha. Joseph of Arimathea had to hurry and get Jesus’ body in the tomb, throw on some spices, and wrap Him before sunset. Besides, the church of the Holy Sepulcher may have been too far to carry the body of a dead convict through the streets of Jerusalem at Passover…. Just sayin’ 😇

Hello! Gotta love tourists and their day wear 😉.

Woodcuts are simply amazing. I admire that skill. I once attempted getting artsy with a wood burning kit. Not so good.
