I know what I’m doing tonight now. I’m just wondering whether the viewing should be accompanied by a whiskey or a gin. 👍. Happy New Year to you and all of your followers.
BBC 4 finally repeated Elizabeth R. I have it recorded. I located a DVD copy of 6 Wives Of Henry VIII. And now this. Good things come in 3 apparently. No idea if that is true but it fits here.
I watched it immediately when I got an email from History Hit! It was totally awesome !!! I learned a lot as usual ! Who knew Hal got hit in the face? And the surgeon was a genius!!! Thank you for the insights!!!
That makes sense. I remember that Bradmore also custom-created the screwed forceps that extracted the arrow-tip from his face. I’d have needed more than white wine to withstand that pain!
Dan, excellent show!!! Well done! The surgery part was gross but totally fascinating! Left me wanting more!
PS: just re-listened to all seasons the only podcast you have ;) ,This is History, as I just subscribed. The subscriber episodes bw seasons are excellent! Thank you for recording and sharing your nerding out!
I just finished the show. I agree with the other commentators that it was fabulous. I just have one question, ”What did Henry IV do to irritate the Percys so badly before the parliament of 1402?” There must have been some significant but that’s not really covered in your doc. Your documentary was really well done. The illustration of the operation in the ballistic gel was very cool! Well done
Thanks Dan an excellent overview and great context for the real Henry V. Staggering to think that at 16 he survived such a horrific injury! Didn't Hotspur truly live up to his name by commencing battle without waiting for his father who was enroute with reinforcements or Glyndwr and the Welsh who were scheduled to rendezvous? Or was his hand forced by Henry and his father's swift arrival in Shrewsbury? Also, was their a subsequent standoff between the Welsh and Henry IV with neither side willing to commit to battle? Great stuff and there is now a major battle re-enactment at the site each year! All the best, John

White wine was what the surgeon John Bradmore used to clean Henry’s facial wound…. Just a thought
Or?
Why must it be or? ;)

I am watching the show right now. So far I learned the difference between spitting distance and insulting distance.
