You really didn't give your opinion about H VII though... Do you think he was a miser? How about a usurper? I'm always curious about your personal view. Care to enlighten us?
In all the back and forth of the Plantagenet Wars the unlikeliest upstart actually took the prize. Thanks to his unrelenting mother. A stable and fairly peaceful reign - certainly a vast departure from the previous reigns. If nothing else that incredible tomb inspires awe.
You can see why people preferred to die on the battlefield back then - quinsy is a miserable painful way to die, and would certainly have been a reason to stop eating. Also more likely in someone weakened by consumption. Sounds like his last few months and days were horrible. Great or not, those little bacteria will get you in the end...
Seems like a doer, this guy. So, what happened to his boy, #8? He was a spendthrift knucklehead who destroyed some awesome architecture to fund his fun. Did his big bro REALLY die of consumption or was Ocho devious even early on...hmmmm? Wack DNA, IMO.
This was a great read concerning a king I know next to nothing about. That eulogy reads like North Korean propaganda. Super interesting. Thanks, Jones!
Henry VII is my favorite historical monarch. The last to win the throne by conquest, not right. He changed the history of England forever and technically his heirs are still on the throne. Not a perfect king by any means but definitely influential one!

You wouldn't wish those ailments on your worst enemy!

Enjoyed this!
Whenever I see that picture of Henry VII I always think of Terry Gilliam's segue piece of animation in Monty Python.
Well stated Dan, thank you for sharing your insight.
Great article! Though I’ve never seen a bad one! Thank you for once again educating us and giving your insights!
