As I read your "review" of Helen Castor's new book, The Eagle and the Hart, I wondered if you were ever asked to review a book and it turned out not to be worthy of your standards! What do you do in that case?
Hi dan! Lovely meeting you at your British library talk! Thank you for the kind words. My question is do you think you'll do a book collection for all of your medieval books one day? I would love to have them all in a gorgeous set !
Meaningless exercise: of the English monarchs who had relatively more intellectual bents—Henry II, Henry V, Henry VIII, Elizabeth, and James I… what do you think each of them would be like as professors? I imagine Henry II as the charismatic dynamo students can’t keep up with and Henry V as the professor everyone fears and respects for his rigorous course demands and merciless grading.
Hi Dan 👋!! I have listened to a good number of the podcast interviews you’ve done and am currently listening to the one on Modern Widsom - I think it’s my favorite so far! And no matter how many times I hear you paraphrase Henry’s letter home to dad I crack up every time! It’s like your Robert Pattinson - never gets old (don’t worry, not gonna ask you to do it 😂). My question is: You are so good at engaging an audience and it makes learning about history really entertaining- was teaching ever something you considered? I mean, you teach us all the time but I mean like in a classroom situation?
Going down the alternate history of what if. If Henry did not survive the arrow to the face, Thomas, Duke of Clarence dies, John, Duke of Bedford becomes king. I believe that none of the brothers had legitimate sons. Do you think the Beauforts would have tried to claim the throne?
Hi Dan! Just finished reading "Henry V" a few days ago. What an outstanding work. What were some of the most surprising facts you discovered about Henry, when researching the book? Do you foresee a TV documentary or series based on the biography?
Re Live Q&A, I have to vote no, as the time differences are so great, and some of us would likely have to miss it due to commitments. I love the video option as I can watch/listen to it when I have time for a nice cuppa and an hour to spare! Thank you for making medieval history so engaging!
Greetings, I have always been obsessed with the queens of England. After reading your (amazing) book Henry V, I’ve become increasingly interested in Joan (Joanna) of Navarre, especially after learning she was accused of being a witch by Friar Randolph. Do you have any feelings or intuitions on the accuser’s character? In the book you said Henry V was plagued with guilt for her imprisonment. Do you have any insight on correspondence between Henry V and Joan? Sending hugs and good wishes .
Hi Dan. Enjoyed hearing your talk with Alice at the London Podcast Festival. My question(s) - as an English historian, is it inevitable that your initial impression of the Henrys is through Shakespeare’s eyes? Is there any other monarchy/historical period around the world that has that same dramatic canon? Have you read Mother Naked? Interesting read. (I’m sorry - in between reading your books, I read books by other people!)
Hi Dan. Just finished reading Guns of August by Barbara Tuchman, what would you recommend as a follow up? Was thinking of World Undone by Meyer. Many thanks.

I’m concerned for my man Loveday, is he gonna be okay?

Yes to the live videos! Let’s do Friday lives again like it’s 2020! We can all drink craft beers and you can throw books over your shoulder!

Thanks for doing these Q&As! Live could be cool!

Hiya Dan! Not a question this time around, but we need more puppy content please! And thank you!
Hello Dan, I am enjoying your Henry the V biography very much! Is there a topic or person outside of Europe that you would like to do a book about?
Regarding the live Q&A: It might be hard for those of us in the States to participate. Just a thought :) Thanks for answering our questions!

Afternoon All. A live Q and A? That would be a yes from me. Question: Where in the world would be your ideal location for a meet and greet.
Absolutely 😢🤗

Greetings from the US!
How many bastards did King John have and what do we know of them?
