I think that it is time to bring back some classics like Gibbon's "Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire" in all of its volumes, Einhard's "The Life of Charlemagne", Bocaccio's "Decameron", Chaucer's "The Canterbury Tales", "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight", Dante's "The Divine Comedy" (although "The Inferno" is the only interesting one), Milton's "Paradise Lost", etc.
First, I think these would look great as works of art. Second, they are undeniably classics and still hold interest. Third, I suspect they all are public domain, so acquiring the rights to publish them as Millenia Editions should not be costly. Of course, you may need to pick and choose the translations of some of these works. Perhaps Seamus Heaney's translation of "Beowulf" may still be expensive to license.
Maybe this is just me with my business hat on, but because the licenses to the texts are inexpensive, then the Millenia Editions could be made beautiful and collectible at a reasonable price. I would buy a beautiful edition of all of these works.
I would love to see Summer of Blood in a special addition. It has to be my favorite book of yours! With Plantagenets and Henry V a close 2nd & 3rd . She-Wolves by Helen Castor also comes to mind!
Excited for this! Other than your books, I'd love to see Barbara Tuchman's books (the Guns of August, the Zimmerman Telegram, etc.) published as special editions. Her books brought back my interest in history. I'd also love to see Emma Southon's books as special editions too.
Oo-errr! I'd love to see a fancy edition of Helen Castor's 'She Wolves,' if possible.👑
I've seen too many recent editions of old public domain classics ending up in the bargain bin at my local bookshop to be convinced in the merit of reissuing those, but who knows? 🤔
Exciting indeed! I think this is the future of publication - giving the material object itself the heft and beauty that make readers love books.
Strong agree!
I’d love to see some Millenia magic given to Helen Castor’s masterpiece - The Eagle & the Hart. I’m betting it would be ALL kinds of stunning! 🦅🦌🙏🏻♥️
Ugh, yes, this is the actual dream
Right?! Definitely deserves the Millenia treatment 🤗
Hey Dan,

Great advice - thanks Shane!
I'd go crazy over some special editions of:
*Time Travelers Guide to Medieval England by Ian Mortimer
*Anglo-Saxon Chronicles
*Everything is Tuberculosis by John Green
*Henry V by you!
Marc Morris's The Anglo Saxons 💯 (or any Marc Morris tbh!)
Great book. Great idea!
I second this. I love all of Marc Morris books like AngloSaxons , Norman Conquest and and King Jon
Where to start - the obvious ones!
The rest of your back catalogue clearly!
Helen Castor - all, but can see a beautiful Eagle & The Heart edition <3
Marc Morris catalogue
Poet Mystic, Widow, Wife - Hetta Howes,
Kate Lister - can see some fun had with her books!!
Amy Jeffs, Saints and Storyland (and have just seen proofs of her latest book on Arthur are in the wild, so that's going on the list here!)
and because I can't seem to get enough Black Death books;
The world the plague made
To Calais in Ordinary Times? (How beautiful would this be?!)
Oh my goodness- where to start?
Lady Antonio Fraiser’s Cromwell would be amazing- even without her autograph. Also her brilliant Marie Antoinette and Mary Queen of Scots.
Same with Barbara Tuchman’s A Distant Mirror.
I’d love to see Alison Weir’s The Lady in the Tower and/or any of her “Queens” series.
Young Damned and Fair - Gareth Russell
Kings and Queens- Iain Dale
Mary Beard SPQR
Charles Spencer - The White Ship
Magna Carta - Dan Jones
And something really fun like the Oxford Book of Royal Anecdotes or Time Traveler’s Guide to Medieval England
Gosh there’s so many 🤦♀️
I would love to see Summer of Blood in a special addition. It has to be my favorite book of yours! With Plantagenets and Henry V a close 2nd & 3rd . She-Wolves by Helen Castor also comes to mind!
Now that's a challenge! So many great books out there...
Here goes:
- Son of Prophecy by Nathen Amin
- Queen James by Gareth Russell
- Queer Georgians by Anthony Delaney
- Motherland by Luke Pepera
- Helen Castor's full catalogue 🤪
- Sceptred Isle by Helen Carr
- also anything by Tom Holland
- The White Ship by Charles Spencer
...and that's just from the top of my head!
The Song Of Simon De Montfort. Sophie Therese Ambler.
Can I add anything by Alice Loxton past and future?!
All of your books! Then I’d like The Palace by Gareth Russell.
Excited for this! Other than your books, I'd love to see Barbara Tuchman's books (the Guns of August, the Zimmerman Telegram, etc.) published as special editions. Her books brought back my interest in history. I'd also love to see Emma Southon's books as special editions too.
I think Distant Mirror would be killer - definitely going on the list.
She-Wolves by Helen Castor, Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, a book about William Marshal
Oo-errr! I'd love to see a fancy edition of Helen Castor's 'She Wolves,' if possible.👑
I've seen too many recent editions of old public domain classics ending up in the bargain bin at my local bookshop to be convinced in the merit of reissuing those, but who knows? 🤔
Helen Castor’s She-Wolves or The Eagle and the Hart would both be incredible in a Millennia edition!
