really enjoyed this installment! always interested in your thoughts about the craft of writing, both fiction and non. and was finally able to pre-order my e-copy of Essex Dogs yaaaaay altho it says I have to wait til Feb 2023 to get it:( whut.
I really appreciate your thoughts on this. I honestly have pressed pause on Starz period dramas lately.
I know that the goal is entertainment above all else, but ever since I witnessed Catherine of Aragon storm into the Battle of Flodden sporting her maternity armor on 'The Spanish Princess', I vowed to permanently break up with Starz, and then proceeded to cry into my pillow for the rest of the night. The horse's armor though, (chef's kiss)! Anyway, it sounds like 'Becoming Elizabeth' may have the power to potentially redeem this relationship. Thanks!
I’m very pro hunks and the shagging. Hopefully the rich visual experience will draw new crowds to fall in love with Elizabeth’s story and into history in a way that their teachers maybe weren’t able to inspire.
Fab read! Just what I needed this week based on recent events. Never have enough of the F word with historic romps.
Interestingly, well to me- I learned this week as im studying genealogy as a side hobby, the development of Parish records, a treasure trove of personal detail and resources came about due to the fabulous Elizabeth 1st. The 1601 Elizabethan Poor Law. Documents of settlements and recovery. And the use of the mop fairs.
Elizabeth apparently after viewing beggars on the streets and decreed Poor parish relief had to be instigated to literally round up the beggars and provide their offspring with apprenticeships and the like.
As a 2020 mother of teens of youtube/ insta/ tiktok I wish teens still had apprenticeships to learn valuable trades by necessity.
I dunno … felt like I was watching a GOT redux. I had the sense of the fear and uncertainty in Elizabeth and Mary after the death of scabby old Henry. And the Seymour machinations- but I found the gratuitous shagging and 20th century cursing distracting and annoying.
I think the term you’re looking for regarding ambient sound design is ‘ambiance’ or ‘ambient sounds’ etc. Unless there’s ANOTHER one that also escapes me lol
I’ll have to give this a go, as I usually find it quite distracting when medieval characters are effing and jeffing.

Is it possible that the woman having hot monkey sex with T Seymour on Episode 1 is the same woman who wrote a pious prayer book?
I’m just sayin’

Yay! I like this topic a lot better than the f***g gun debate.
Love Tom Cullen. Especially naked.
But, I did like a jacket the costume department had him in for the scene where he drops in to see Elizabeth unannounced, mid-day.
Anyway, love the clothes in these type of shows and always wonder how accurate the cuts, fabrics, colors and styles are.
To be ultra realistic- you would need poxed faces questionable personal hygiene and mouths full of black teeth
Morning All. Is there going to be a signed version of Essex Dogs? Or do I have to drag my butt across the Irish Sea and get it signed at an event?
