That is a fantastic cover! George is such a great guy-I'm met him a couple times now, and he's just as you've described. We had beer and beans in Boston once and finished the evening with him basically calling after me, "MAKE SURE YOU KEEP SUBMITTING!" He's a helpful, generous, and great guy. I'm excited about your novel and can't wait for it!
Also--all you say about being nervous is apt, but you know, there will always be those people you can't please (you know this). F&^ck 'em--don't focus on them. You've proven you can tell a damned good story even in your nonfiction, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what you do with fiction.
Took a weekend away to Concord, MA (Lexington & Concord, anyone?) and hiked around a snowy Walden Pond and Old North Bridge yesterday…so just listened today on the drive home.
I’m so excited for this book. My first ever post on History, Etc was about how I struggle to grasp what life was like for people in history and the fact that they truly lived and breathed. I’m constantly left in awe. Listening to you describe the book and how you came to think of it was awesome. Hearing you talk about the thrills and horrors of war but also the mundane parts of it makes it sound like a book I’ve been waiting ages for. Writing about the common man during a time period that seems so similar but so different from ours is a dream. The cover looks sick too
Dear Dan, Thanks for taking us through the genesis of the story. It sounds totally cool! I'm trying to think of historians that made the leap from writing pure history to historical fiction. I came up with Philippa Gregory, Alison Weir and JRR Tolkien but I couldn't think of many others. That's quite an impressive group to join! We will all cheer your successes.
I’m totally excited about this book! Will you do autographed copies through Waterstones for presales again? That was very cool! Will James Taunton be rolling out merchandise?
I have to mention that Flash Gordon was one of my dad's favorite movies. Your mention of it caused a little tear of love. He passed in '15 and I'm lucky enough to have his DVD copy. I have the original soundtrack on LP. Thank you for that memory today ❤️
Congrats, you alpha. What an amazing accomplishment and a new jewel in your literary crown. Your dog whistle is also impressive.

Pre-ordered, can't wait 😊 I may need a separate book shelf just for your books! Btw... Will there be a signed edition or even better - a book tour?
On pre-order naturally 🙂

Having overcome an unwilling Paypal account, I finally managed to pre-order. This had better be a great book, Mr. Jones!

Excited for the release!
Totally want a signed one though! 😉
Almost spit out a sip of coffee as I laughed at “tough tittie” comment. Glad to hear I’m in such wonderful company when i let it loose! LOL!
Congratulations! I’ll do my usual and pre-order.
