Excellent photo considering… My history grad daughter is introducing her children (2 and 10 months) to castles at every opportunity and the 2 year old loves a good castle!
Child rearing has changed since I was a kid, or was it just my upbringing? I had no input on the sights to be visited or the time spent there. I have therefore clocked many hours sitting on ledges or curbs outside historical sights, not interested at all. Now I visit practically every architecturally interesting building I come across. So to everybody with moaning children in tow: all is not lost!
Had a brilliant visit there in 2016. Traced your route exactly, including the stop at a taverna. We spent a great deal longer at the Castle than 8 minutes, but that's kids for you!
The experiences that you are sharing with your children are amazing. My father was an immigrant, but our family rarely travelled, other than in my father's stories. I have been lucky to see the word later in life, and even to have shared adventures with my Dad. This is an amazing gift- thank you for sharing this with us. It inspires me to share my joy of traveling with my nieces & nephews.
Good effort on the photo. Really good! Looks like a great holiday
I'm sure kids just have a chip, when anything you are interested in comes up, flips off and they are mind stops to anything seen, heard or said by you.
With father archaeologist and a mother historian, my daughters tolerate very well that kind of situations. For my mental health, I also learned to pick my battles. If I had wanted to see the castle, I would have left the girls with my husband and gone alone.
Pdt. The child was right. Shame on you, Dan! (nice picture! )
Having just listened to your book in your own voice it’s all seems very familiar to do a very good job on everything glad you have such a wonderful life
“It takes about eight minutes to inspect the entire site, which is, in my experience, the absolute maximum that my children will tolerate being shown old shit under a hot sun” has sadly summarised my tourist guiding career during the heatwave. In other news, I love that photo, totally worth the effort.
Nice! The children are disciplining you! A glimpse into your future whilst looking through a window to the past.

Really interesting read!!
At least their father isn't a geologist. The history of Earth and humanity is interesting. Rocks are mostly boring.

My kids loved old castles! But that was pre-teens! Loving your holiday snaps, Dan!
Thanks for that Dan. Looks a stunning place, will have to venture there someday.
There's nothing better in my book than exploring an old castle and reading up on the tales of lives and battles that took place.
Interesting, heartwarming content. ❤️
