What connects our two Queen Elizabeths, besides their remarkable longevity? I think the answer lies in their common determination to preserve and strengthen the monarchy by changing as little about it as possible. Both women could deal with a crisis if pressed. But they had to be pressed quite hard.

I wonder how long it took for the whole population to know of the demise of Elizabeth 1 - presumably many months in some-cases or even years for other countries. Interesting contrast with our Monarch- where the whole world knew in minutes
