In 1538 Thomas Becket got cancelled. This was bad news, although in a way it could have been worse.

Across the kingdom of England, his name and his face were erased wherever they were displayed. Pictures of Becket were scrubbed from church walls. References to him were blotted out in prayer books. Histories that mentioned Becket had the relevant passages…
