The sign by the roadside got me. Tell me this wouldn’t get you too.
I think it’s the dragon’s eye: just sneaking a glance at you, the passerby, to make sure you’re actually seeing this. St George is carrying out some fairly unwanted root canal work, and apparently everyone is fine with it.
Evidently I couldn’t resist.
Today the monastery is mostly ruins, the most impressive of which are those of an old olive oil mill. Dig the arches:
The monastic buildings themselves are in a more reduced state, but you can see the olive groves planted out in their ancient patterns all across the valley.
