A few days ago I hopped on a RIB and took a bouncy trip across the Mediterranean to the tiny island of Gramvousa, just off the north-west tip of Crete.
There, a steep hike up from the beach takes you to the sprawling remains of a sixteenth-century Venetian fortress.
